So glad we found Prestige Leadcraft. They were great to deal with—friendly, on time, and really know their stuff. The leadwork on our old cottage looks spot on and it’s nice to know it’s been done properly. No cutting corners, just solid workmanship.

Specialist Leadwork for Different Parts of Your Building

Leadwork is used in many parts of a building, from chimneys and roof junctions to guttering and decorative architectural features.

Here are some of the areas where specialist leadwork is commonly required.

Roofs, Bays, Domes and Turrets

Lead has been used for centuries to form durable and weather-resistant roofs, particularly on bays, domes and turrets where complex shapes require a material that can be carefully dressed and detailed. Properly installed lead roofing protects these architectural features while preserving the character of the building.

Guttering, Hopper Boxes and Cornices

Lead guttering and hopper heads are both practical and decorative, carrying rainwater safely away from the building while complementing traditional architecture. Bespoke lead components can be formed to suit the building, providing long-lasting drainage that blends with period and heritage properties.

Lead Repairs and Renovation

Older leadwork can often be repaired or restored rather than replaced. From worn flashings to damaged roof sections, careful repairs help extend the life of existing lead while maintaining the integrity and appearance of the roof.

Leadwork for Porches and Extensions

Leadwork around porches and extensions protects the points where roofs meet walls or where new structures join the original building. Proper flashing and detailing prevents leaks and helps the extension blend naturally with the existing roof.

Chimney Aprons and Edge patterns

Chimneys are one of the most common places for water to enter a roof. Lead flashing and aprons create a durable seal between the chimney stack and roof covering, protecting the structure for decades.

Lead Welding

Lead welding allows individual sheets of lead to be joined together to create strong, watertight joints in roofing and architectural features. This specialist skill is essential for forming durable details and ensuring leadwork performs reliably over many years.

Church and Cathedral lead Roofing

Historic buildings require traditional lead roofing techniques and careful detailing. We carry out specialist leadwork on churches and heritage buildings, preserving the structure while maintaining its character.

From a church roof in Cambridge to a home extension near Norwich, attention to detail is what sets Prestige Leadcraft apart.

When You Might Need Specialist Leadwork

Lead flashing around a chimney has started leaking

Water can enter a roof where the chimney meets the tiles or slates. Damaged or poorly installed flashing can allow rain to penetrate the roof structure.

A bay roof or dormer needs replacing

Bay windows, dormers and small roofs are often finished in lead because it forms neatly around complex shapes and provides long-term protection.

Guttering or hopper heads are worn or leaking

Traditional lead guttering and hopper heads can last for decades but may eventually require repair or replacement to keep water flowing away from the building.

A historic or listed building needs roof repairs

Heritage buildings often require traditional materials and skilled workmanship to preserve their structure and appearance.

Existing leadwork has split or lifted

Over time lead can fatigue or move, especially if it was installed incorrectly. Repairs can often extend the life of existing leadwork.

If you’re unsure whether leadwork is the cause of a problem, we’re happy to assess the roof and advise on the best course of action.
